akarta gubernatorial candidate Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, along with his father former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and mother Ani Yudhoyono, was introduced at the extended Pohan Family and Daughters gathering (Parpoda) in Jakarta where the family was dressed in traditional Batak textiles called ulos.

Parpoda chairman Hazairin Pohan said the mangulosi [the ulos wearing] tradition, which symbolizes protection in Batak culture, was carried out as a form of blessings for Agus and his running mate Sylviana Murni.

Hazairin said he invited the candidate pair to be introduced to the Batak community who reside in Jakarta. “This is a prayer for blessings in the Jakarta elections,” Hazairin said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

The event, themed “Jakarta Manortor with Agus-Sylvi” was organized by the Pohan Family and Daughters organization, which is the surname of Agus’s celebrity wife Annisa Pohan.

The Yudhoyono entourage arrived after attending a funeral service of former Democratic Party chairman Hadi Utomo, who was Agus’s uncle.

Wearing a long-sleeved batik shirt, SBY participated in the mangulosi tradition on stage, followed by Agus, who was accompanied by his wife and running mate Sylvi. Former Bank Indonesia deputy governor and Agus’s father-in-law, Aulia Pohan, also attended the event.
