T

he police have been detaining treason suspect Firza Husein at the Mobile Brigade Command headquarters detention center (Mako Brimob) in Kelapa Dua, Depok, since Wednesday after she attempted to escape investigation.

National Police Spokesperson Insp. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar said that the decision was made after Firza failed to show up for an interrogation session with police investigators.

“We are concerned that the suspect will complicate the process because she refused to come after we summoned her for questioning,” Boy told a press briefing on Thursday. “We will detain her during the investigation.”

Firza was arrested at her residence in East Jakarta last Tuesday for her alleged role in treason that was apparently planned with other 10 activists on Dec. 2 last year, only hours before the start of a large rally organized to demand the arrest of Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama for blasphemy. The first time she was arrested, however, she was later released.

She was in the spotlight again recently after screen grabs of an intimate WhatsApp conversation that allegedly took place between her and Islam Defenders Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Shihab went viral on Monday, a day before she was arrested a second time. (wit)
