ome 100,000 fish eggs have been scattered in Pinang Ranti Reservoir in East Jakarta to help create a proper ecosystem and a fishing pond for local residents.
"The 100,000 eggs were donated by the Jakarta Fisheries, Agriculture and Food Security Agency," East Jakarta Mayor Bambang Musyawardana said. "After three months, residents can fish and consume them."
He explained that the fish cultivated in the reservoir were common carp and Nile tilapia, which could survive in the reservoir because of their endurance and rapid proliferation.
Moreover, with the fish cultivation the residents could enjoy more activities as officials would allow them to go fishing in the area, said Bambang.
Aside from that, the municipality would also plant productive trees, like mango and starfruit trees, surrounding the reservoir. (agn)
