The Depok Police have apprehended a man on suspicion of selling drugs to university students in Depok, West Java.
Depok Police narcotics division chief Comr. Putu Kholis said officers arrested the suspect, Hairul, 36, when he was allegedly about conduct a transaction on Jl. Juanda, Depok, on Wednesday. The police suspected Hairul, who is a former drug convict, was a part of a narcotics network controlled from inside Bogor penitentiary.
“We confiscated 127 small packages of marijuana and 14 packages of crystal methamphetamine from the suspect,” Putu said on Thursday as quoted by tempo.co.
He further said the police had been monitoring the area following reports by local residents, who said drug transactions were often conducted in the area.
Hairul has been charged under the 2006 Narcotics Law, which carries a 20-year prison sentence. (kuk/ebf)
