C

orruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan, who was a victim of an acid attack in April, will have another eye examination on Monday.

Acid was thrown at Novel’s face while on his way home after morning prayers in a mosque near his house in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on April 11. He has sought eye treatment in Singapore.

According to his latest medical report on May 14 released by the antigraft body, there have been improvements to his sight. However, his right cornea is inflamed.

After more than a month since the attack, the KPK and Novel’s family have expressed hope that there will be progress in the police investigation and in finding the perpetrators.

Several people have been questioned in connection to the case, but none have been charged. Last month, the Jakarta Police questioned two men seen in CCTV footage near Novel’s house.

On Thursday, the police arrested a man identified only as AL but released him after his alibi was verified.

As one of the KPK's top investigators, Novel led the investigations into several high-profile cases, including the investigation into the e-ID embezzlement case, in which several lawmakers and high-ranking government officials have been implicated.
