n a bid to ease traffic chaos around Tanah Abang Station in Central Jakarta, the Jakarta Transportation Agency has created dedicated pools for each mode of public transportation operating in the vicinity.
The agency deputy head, Sigit Widjatmoko, said the pooling scheme was needed to better organize the public vehicles, which contributed massively to the chaotic situation in the area.
"We also hope that the pooling scheme will assist passengers in choosing their preferred modes of public transportation. So they can directly go to the pool through dedicated channels after they alight from trains," he said on Monday.
Special signs have been erected inside the station to let passengers know which direction they should head in to use each mode of public transportation, Sigit added.
He said the agency had communicated with train operator PT KAI prior to the implementation of the idea.
"There is still some wide unused space in the station so we think that it can be used to pool public transportation, both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles operating in the area," Sigit said.
