ndonesia will not provide its government officials with service vehicles when they move to the country’s future new capital Nusantara, the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority said, citing that they would be encouraged to use public transportation while on duty.

IKN Authority facilities and infrastructure undersecretary Silvia Halim said the policy was in line with Nusantara’s low emissions principle, where the city would rely on 80 percent use of public transportation. As for private vehicles, only electric vehicles (EVs) would be allowed on the road.

"The message is indeed consistent with the public transportation policy for mobility within IKN, and the government must also set an example,” Silvia said on Thursday, as quoted from Detik.

The new capital city would still exempt ministers and the president from the rule, who would use state-provided service vehicles.

Silvia said the authority would continue discussing the plan, especially on ensuring adequate transportation options were available in the future capital.

Nusantara is designed with a 10-minute concept, meaning residents are able to meet most of their daily needs within a 10-minute journey., This would be achieved with transit-oriented development (TOD), ensuring interconnectivity between residential offices and public transportation stops.
