The South Tangerang Transportation Agency is operating the Area Traffic Center System (ATCS), which allows them to reprimand traffic violators at four intersections.
The agency’s head of traffic, Ika, said the system was intended to monitor points of congestion and anticipate crimes.
"As a traffic controller, the ATCS can help our officers monitor violations in the field," Ika said as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com on Monday.
He said those who breached the rules would be reprimanded through a loudspeaker.
At every intersection, Ika added, there are eight cameras that can rotate 360 degrees to monitor and supervise the riders.
"Currently, there are four intersections equipped with cameras and detector cameras to map the vehicle density," he said.
The cameras have been put up at the junction at the German Center, the Alam Sutera roundabout, the Gading Serpong junction and Muncul junction.
In the future, Ika said his agency would cooperate with the police to use the ATCS database to maximize results.
"So if we capture and record the license plate number of a vehicle that violates the rules, the police can trace the number," he said.
"The mayor targets that by 2021, we will have installed cameras at 18 intersection points in South Tangerang," he added. (dis)
