Singer Radhini Aprilia finds inspiration for her music everywhere, from her favorite musicians, to current social issues, personal experiences as well as from books.
“In my free time I like to read. I used to read a lot of different genres of books, but now I mostly read inspirational books and self-help books,” Radhini said during a recent visit to The Jakarta Post.
When it comes to reading, Radhini believes it is an activity that requires her full attention. Hence, the easiest way to work reading into her schedule is to find a slot of free time when she doesn’t have other things do and is free from distractions.
“I usually read at night when I don’t have to wake up early in the morning. I read until I fall asleep,” she said.
Despite it being difficult to find time to dedicate to reading amid her tight schedule as a radio DJ and singer, Radhini revealed that books had contributed sparks of inspiration for her music.
“I find a lot of benefits in reading books,” she said.
To promote her latest single, Hampir Jadi (Almost Done) and debut album Awal (Debut), the London School od Public Relations graduate has performed a number of gigs in several cities in Indonesia.
Below are some of her favorite books.
Twilight Trilogy
by Stephenie Meyer
I read the whole series because I really love the story. It might be stereotypical, but because I’m a girl, I was really drawn to the story, especially the romance.
Girl Boss
by Sophia Amoruso
As the title suggests, this book gives advice on how to be a successful woman. It is one of the most inspiring books I have ever read.
Fifthy Shades of Grey
by EL James
This is another fictional novel I enjoyed. Initially, I was curious because when the book was published, it immediately became a major hit. I read the first chapter and became absorbed in the story. Sometimes, I also like imagining myself with the character.
