More than 1,500 joint security officers will be deployed to secure the Lunar New Year celebration in North Jakarta on Friday, the municipality's police chief Sr. Comr. Reza Arief Dewanto has said.

"We will involve at least 1,500 security officers from the police, the military, the city administration and representatives of residents," Reza said on Thursday according to kompas.com. North Jakarta is home to several Chinese settlements.
The officers will guard 13 viharas, nine malls and two tourist spots, Ancol and Pantai Indah Kapuk, he added.
They will also guard other popular places, Reza said.
Reza went on to suggest residents participate in the effort to secure the celebration.
"I hope residents can maintain tolerance, so the celebration can be held safely," he said. (cal)
