tate-owned construction company PT Waskita Karya will provide legal assistance to one of their chief executive officers, AA, who has been named a suspect in the investigation into the Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu (Becakayu) toll road incident by the Jakarta Police.

“We’re following the legal procedures as requested by the police, while at the same time improving the company’s standard operating procedures,” said chief public relations and CSR officer of Waskita Karya, Poppy Sukmawati, as quoted by kompas.com on Tuesday.

The Jakarta Police also named another suspect, AS, who is a supervisor for state-owned engineering and management consultancy firm Virama Karya.

According to the East Jakarta Police and the National Police’s forensic laboratory, the collapse of a pier-head formwork on the Becakayu toll road construction site in Feb. 20 was caused by human error.

“We questioned several witnesses, construction experts and investigated the location until we concluded that the incident occurred because of the suspects’ negligence,” said East Jakarta Police chief, Sr. Comr. Tony Surya Putra recently.

“We haven't arrested the suspects, although they should still take responsibility and follow the legal process,” he added.

The incident caused seven workers to be rushed to the Indonesia Christian University (UKI) Hospital and the National Police Hospital. Six reportedly left the hospitals on Feb. 23, after receiving treatment. (vla)
