he South Tangerang administration in Banten is facing hurdles in its efforts to find empty space to process the city's waste owing to the rapid growth of urban housing, an official has said.
"We have insufficient waste disposal sites because there is no available land. It has been all taken by developers," South Tangerang Environment Agency secretary Yepi Suherman said as quoted by kompas.com.
He said 49 waste disposal sites were spread in seven districts across the city, while the agency needed 54 sites.
"Of the number, only around 30 percent are operating, the rest are problematic or even stalled," he said on Wednesday.
He said the sites were independently managed by local communities. (fac)
