akarta Governor Anies Baswedan said on Thursday he had decided to close 34 schools throughout the Asian Games, from Aug. 18 to Sept. 2, and suggested the 17,000 affected students study on their own at home.

Of the 34 schools, nine are located near Asian Games venues while 25 others are on the routes between the venues and the athletes village.

"We'll ensure that there'll be no congestion on those routes," Anies said as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.

However, Anies suggested the 17,000 students from the 34 schools study by themselves at home.

Anies said he would instruct the Jakarta Education Agency so that they could immediately notify the principals of the 34 schools and rearrange their respective learning plans.

"The policy only applies to these schools. Other schools that are not related to the Asian Games will conduct their activities as usual," he added. (vla)
