ndonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) director Hasan Fawzi said the bourse had welcomed 190,000 new share investors from January to October, recording the fastest growth in the history of the bourse.
He said up to October, the total number of share investors on the IDX reached 820,000, compared to 628,000 people in December 2017.
“The peak growth occurred in the last three months. In October alone, there were 30,000 new investors,” Hasan said in Jakarta on Monday as reported by kontan.co.id.
He said the high growth was the result of an intensive campaign through education and literation of the bourse along 2018.
He expressed the hope that the simplification of procedures in the issuance of bourse accounts would further boost the number of investors on the IDX.
He said the IDX targeted to recruit 130,000 investors this year, but with the current performance, he expressed his optimism that the new share investors recruited along 2018 would reach about 200,000 people.
“We have set a 20 percent growth target for new investors next year,” Hasan, said adding that the number of IDX investors reached around 1.7 million, including bonds and mutual fund investors. (bbn)
