n trying to help ease the Health Care and Social Security Agency’s (BPJS Kesehatan) deficit, the government has issued a regulation to require patients to pay urun biaya (additional costs) after being treated.
The regulation was issued on Dec. 17 but it has yet to take effect because a team, assigned by the government, is still studying the type of services that need additional costs.
The deputy for BPJS Kesehatan health treatment reference, Budi Muhammad Arief, said the team -- whose members are made up of Health Ministry officials, association of healthcare facility members and other relevant parties, had to wrap up the study in three weeks.
“In late February, the team is expected to complete its work and we will need to disseminate the policy to the public,” Budi said as reported by kontan.co.id. He did not mention when it would be enforced.
The regulation has three categories -- Rp 20,000 for the once-off treatment of an outpatient at Class A and B hospitals and Rp 10,000 for the once-off treatment of an outpatient at Class C and D hospitals. The highest cost is Rp 350,000 for 20 hospital visits within three months. (bbn)
