irefighters rescued three people and their pet dog who were trapped inside a flaming shophouse in Enjo Market in Pulo Gadung, East Jakarta on Tuesday morning.

While trying to put out the blaze, firefighters from the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency found and rescued Michele, 25, Venie, 46, and Gilbert, 17, along with their pet dog.

“They survived and have been rushed to Persahabatan Hospital for medical treatment,” said the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency's head of operations, Gatot Sulaeman, as quoted by tempo.co.

He said he suspected the fire was started by an electric short circuit, allegedly created by a tenant attempting to repair an electronic device.

The owner of the shophouse suffered an estimated Rp 500 million (US$35,000) worth of losses.

Twelve firetrucks were deployed to the scene and they put out the fire by 9.47 a.m. (vla)
