he high number of traffic accidents caused by wrong-way driving has prompted South Tangerang Police to form a task force to monitor violators.
Traffic police chief Adj. Comr. Lalu Hedwin said 1,184 traffic accidents involving wrong-way driving were recorded last year.
He said the task force consisted of 73 personnel who would be deployed to monitor a number of areas on Jan. 31 to Feb. 14.
"The points are along Jl. Raya Serpong, under the Ciputat overpass, at the Islamic village in Kelapa Dua and the Viktor intersection, among other places," he said.
He added that the personnel would ticket drivers caught driving in the wrong direction on one-way streets or ignoring no-entry signs.
The formation of the task force was a follow-up to an instruction from the Jakarta Police regarding the dangerous impacts of wrong-way driving. (ggq)
