A representative from the Indonesian Halal Lifestyle Center (IHLC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with those from the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency (TIDA) in Kazan, Tatarstan Republic, Russia.

The MoU outlining aspects of partnership in promoting halal lifestyle — covering publication, research, seminars, training, IT platform development and much more — was signed on April 25, on the sidelines of the 2019 Russian Halal Expo, which was part of the ongoing 2019 Kazan Summit on Russia-Islamic World in Kazan.

The MoU was signed by IHLC chairman Sapta Nirwandar and TIDA chairwoman Taliya Minullina, witnessed by Tatarstan Republic President Rustam Minnikhanov and Indonesian Ambassador for the Russian Federation and Belarus M. Wahid Supriyadi.

Wahid said that being the country with the biggest Muslim population in Europe, Russia represented a promising cooperation partner for Indonesia in halal lifestyle, in sectors such as food, fashion, cosmetics, drugs, tourism and services. He added that these halal products were also suitable for non-Muslims to use.

“The MoU signing represents the first step in developing cooperation in halal lifestyle between Indonesia and Russia,” he said.

Sapta also gave a keynote speech during the expo opening. He pointed out the market for the halal industry was currently expanding globally, thereby opening many new opportunities for trading activities between Indonesian halal lifestyle companies and their international counterparts, including those from Russia.

He also invited Russian delegates to join Indonesia’s upcoming 2019 International Conference on Halal Business, which will be held from Nov. 12 to 17 in Jakarta.
