he deputy chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Saut Situmorang, has reportedly resigned from the antigraft body after the commission’s new leader was elected by the House of Representatives in the early hours of Friday.

News of his resignation emerged after a message believed to have been written by him to KPK employees was disseminated through the WhatsApp messaging service on Friday morning.

In a copy of the message obtained by The Jakarta Post, Saut said he would officially resign from the KPK on Sept. 16 as he still had to attend two KPK events over the coming weekend. He also said that he would be taking a day off work on Friday.

KPK advisor Muhammad Tsani Annafari confirmed to the Post on Friday that the message had indeed been sent by Saut to him and other employees through email on Friday morning.

"For further details, please ask him," he said.

Saut was not able to respond immediately to the Post's request for comments at the time of writing.

In the message, Saut started by thanking his fellow KPK leaders, employees, security and cleaning staff members for the past four years of working together with him.
