The Health Ministry announced 1,591 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the total number of infections nationwide to 78,572.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, the ministry’s disease control and prevention director general, Achmad Yurianto, added that 54 more people had died of the disease, bringing the death toll to 3,710.

The total number of recovered patients has also increased to 37,636.

The capital city recorded 268 new confirmed cases, bringing the total tally to 15,064. Meanwhile, East Java reported 353 new cases, South Sulawesi 197, South Kalimantan 161, North Sumatra 130 and Bali 101.  

The virus has spread to all of the country's 34 provinces. (dfr/mfp)
