Mekong dolphin population in Cambodia increasing

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) estimates that the population of Mekong river dolphins in Cambodia is estimated to be between 80 and 106.

T

he population of the Mekong river dolphins in Cambodia is estimated to be between 80 and 106 according to scientific calculation by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

Better law enforcement and conservation efforts are the positive trend of the dolphins, said WWF-Cambodia Country Director Seng Teak

Only two dolphins were found dead in 2017, while there were nine new-born recorded, he added.

Fisheries Administration Director Eng Cheasan said the Royal Government and development partners including WWF, Cambodia has developed a long-term strategy for the conservation of these dolphins.
