total of 2,170 people from Timor Leste flocked to Wirasakti Offroad 2017 sports event that was held on Oct. 6-8 at the Haliwen circuit, Belu, Atambua, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

The event was part of the 72nd anniversary celebration of the Indonesian Military (TNI).

Up to 60 participants from Indonesia and Timor Leste took part in the competition.

“There are quite a lot of off-road communities in Timor Leste who want to compete with racers from Indonesia therefore it’s very fitting to hold an off-road activity in the Timor Leste border,” said Tourism Ministry’s tourism research and development deputy assistant Andriyatna Rubenta Tarigan.

A participant from Timor Leste named Tonny Lopes together with his navigator Anwar Udin dominated the race and became the fastest in the 2501 – 4800 cc category.

Their record time was 03:03:01, 33 seconds ahead of Indonesian Helmi Talib of Axo team who took the second position.

Tonny who was a member of the Clardel Team competed again in the second session. Even though he was in the fourth spot at the starting point, he eventually finished at 03:20:40 and once again took the first spot.

The second winner was Rifky T Aklis/Kris Noken of Rifandy team with 03:54:60 record time.

Tonny also took part in the free for all category. The race was conducted on Oct. 8 and joined by all racers from 2500 to 2501 - 4800 cc categories. With the total time of 05:40:96, Tonny once more came out as the winner. (kes)
