T

he first phase of the Garuda Indonesia Travel Fair (GATF) 2018 will be held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) in Senayan, South Jakarta, from April 6 to 8, starting at 10 a.m.

This year’s GATF is seeking to target 80,000 travel enthusiasts, compared to last year’s second phase that attracted over 60,000 visitors.

“We can prepare pre-paid baggage for passengers and they can also choose preferable seats,” said Nina Sulistyowati, Garuda Indonesia’s director of marketing and IT, at a press conference held at the Hard Rock Café in South Jakarta on Thursday. “There will be happy hours in the morning as well as the evening, best deals up to 50 percent and regular discounts.”

The ticket price for a round trip to Singapore, for instance, can be purchased with prices starting at Rp 800,000 ($56) and a round-trip ticket to Japan can also be booked, with prices starting at Rp 2.7 million.

GarudaMiles members will also receive discounts of up to 50 percent. “For instance, if we need 10,000 miles to travel to certain cities, now it’s only 5,000 miles,” Nina said, adding that the airline provided 3 million seats for GATF.

Moreover, travel agents, hotels and traveling equipment companies are set to join the event.

GATF supports the government’s 10 priority destinations and other domestic as well as international destinations. “Garuda has 68 domestic and 22 international routes,” said Sigit Muhartono, Garuda Indonesia's director of cargo who was also present at the press conference, adding that the airline would add three new routes this year. “China and Japan are still people’s favorite destinations.”

Aside from Jakarta, the event will also be held in Ambon, Balikpapan, Padang, Pekanbaru, Pontianak and Batam. (asw)
