President Jokowi, who left the country on Thursday for a trip to China said the shake-up would have no impact on the relationship between Indonesia and China.
resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on Thursday declined to comment on the sacking of China's erstwhile foreign minister Qin Gang and the reappointment of senior diplomat Wang Yi for the Cabinet position, saying the development was a domestic issue for the Chinese government.
President Jokowi, who left the country on Thursday for a trip to China said the shake-up would have no impact on the relationship between Indonesia and China.
"No such thing. This is an internal affair of the People's Republic of China and has nothing to do with us," Jokowi told a press briefing prior to boarding the presidential aircraft at the Halim Perdanakusumah Air Base in East Jakarta on Thursday.
Jokowi added that Indonesia and China had built a good relationship thanks to the role played by Qin's predecessor and current foreign minister Wang Yi.
"The replacement is in fact the old foreign minister Wang Yi, and we have had a long, good relationship with him," Jokowi said.
Earlier this week, China named veteran diplomat Wang its new foreign minister, removing former rising star Qin after a mysterious one-month absence from duties barely half a year into the job.
Qin, 57, a former aide to President Xi Jinping and envoy to the United States, took over the ministry in December but has not been seen in public since June 25 when he met visiting diplomats in Beijing.
