T AIA FINANCIAL (AIA), Indonesia’s leading and most trusted life insurance company in Indonesia has launched AIA Wakaf Assurance, a Sharia-based insurance product with a waqf benefit that has made its debut on the Gojek application. It has been available for purchase with GoPay on the GoSure platform starting from April 18.

According to the 2021 National Waqf (charity) Index published by Badan Wakaf Indonesia (national charitable institution), waqf in the form of land and money could grow to Rp 2,000 trillion (US$140 billion). This is in accordance with the national Muslim awareness of empowering dhuafa (disenfranchised communities) across the nation. In fact, Indonesia is sitting at the first rank according to the CAF World Giving Index at a score of 69, an improvement from the 59 score that Indonesia achieved in 2018, where it also won first place.

There is a shifting perception on waqf, where previously waqf was mostly given in the form of fixed assets such as land or property. Now, more Muslims are driven to donate some of their wealth for public welfare and religious purposes.

AIA Wakaf Assurance offers an insurance compensation of Rp 10 million, with 10 percent allocated as waqf through humanitarian NGO Dompet Dhuafa. The NGO has gained permission from the Indonesian waqf board to manage the waqf according to its intended form and purpose. Meanwhile, the remaining 90 percent is allocated for death benefits with four premium options with different coverage periods, namely Rp 20,000 for one month; Rp 29,000 for three months; Rp 42,000 for six months and Rp 66,000 for a 12-month coverage.

“Ramadan is known as the month of doing good. Therefore, we would like to use this to deliver great benefits through AIA Wakaf Assurance, a sharia-based life insurance with waqf benefits on the Gojek application. We offer this service for all circles, from productive-age people through easy transactions, affordable prices and the waqf benefits.” said AIA chief marketing officer Kathryn Monika Parapak.

“We hope to promote the advantages of this product through GoPay’s extensive user reach across Indonesia. It is also part of our commitment to help the public with their financial needs and GoPay would like to invite them to help one another through digital charity, including waqf. This collaboration between GoPay and AIA is proof of that spirit.” said GoPay chief marketing officer Fibriyani Elastria.

Since 2019, AIA has been in a strategic partnership with Gojek, Indonesia’s leading on-demand platform and the pioneer of multi-service ecosystem models including transportation, food delivery, logistics and more. Other insurance-related programs offered through its GoSure platform include Gamers Protection, Personal Accident Insurance and Cancer Insurance.
