Renowned 1980s jazz singer January Christy passed away on Friday at the age of 58 in a hospital in Bandung, West Java.
She had been brought to the hospital several months prior due to heart problems and asthma, according to kompas.com.
Born in Jan. 17, January was known for her unique voice. Some of her popular songs include “Melayang” (Flying) (1986) and “Aku Ini Punya Siapa” (To Whom Do I Belong) (1987). Throughout her career, she had collaborated with famous musicians, such as Erwin Gutawa, Dian Pramana Poetra and Deddy Dhukun.

Several public figures across the country declared their condolences for the singer, namely Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) head Triawan Munaf and musician Glenn Fredly.
A burial ceremony will be held at Jeruk Purut cemetery in Cilandak, South Jakarta, January’s friend and singer Ermy Kulit told tempo.co. (kes)
