“Fashion is the worst industry. You have no friends in the fashion [industry],” said #Fashionintheair founder and CEO Margaux Bagur.
Bagur was one of the speakers at "Power Talk: Elevating Indonesian Fashion Economy to the Next Level" seminar at Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Central Jakarta.
Bagur shared several tips for seasoned and aspiring fashion designers who want to enter the international market, such as the 4P strategy: price, product, promotion and place.
In addition to the marketing knowledge, she also mentioned the importance of social media. “Twenty-seven percent of the population are social media users,” she said.
As for the local fashion industry, Bagur mentioned Russia, Europe and the Middle East as potential markets.
“There is an opportunity for Muslim wear in the Middle East, while Europe and Russia would be more promising for jewelry and women's and children’s clothing,” she said.

Despite all the opportunities available in those markets, Bagur shared that fashion designers needed to be strong, patient and willing to adapt while entering the international market as it may take one or two years to sell products.
“[Hiring] a personal relations agency is also important, especially for [those who want to enter] the United States market. In the US, if nobody talks about you, you will sell nothing,” added Bagur.
Hosted by B2B fashion industry network, the two-day event aimed to prepare local fashion designers with knowledge to enter international markets.
“In January, we wanted to bring 15 international buyers to Indonesia. [However], we realized that we had to prepare the talent. It would be a waste if [the buyers] came here, but [our local resources] could not meet their demands,” World Fashion Connect co-founder and VP communication Dahlia Sardjono told The Jakarta Post.
World Fashion Connect will also host seminars in April and May featuring different speakers. (kes)
