his summer, sports brand DC Shoes Indonesia is collaborating with Indonesian graffiti artist Darbotz in creating its latest collection of backpacks, boardshorts, t-shirts, caps, shoes and jackets.
Darbotz is known for his signature character Cumi-Kong, which not only can be found across the city's corners, empty walls or exhibitions, but also on the walls of the capital's artsy Artotel Thamrin near Sarinah, Central Jakarta.
“This collaboration serves as an opportunity to bring Indonesia's name to a global stage, not as a consumer but as a designer of widely known DC Shoes' sneakers,” said Darbotz in a press release, adding that he was fully involved in choosing the materials and printing and selecting the shoelaces for the Cumi-Kong-inspired collections.
In this collection, Darbotz highlights the "Keep Em Dirty" concept, a slogan that describes the situation in big cities, meaning that no matter how clean they are, there must be one side that is still dirty and untidy. “This slogan is also suitable for these shoes whenever they are worn by someone who lives in the city and faces whatever problems come their way,” he explained.

“DC Shoes strongly relates to street art and art has always been a big part of this collaboration,” said DC Shoes Indonesia marketing manager Yusar Odang. “Darbotz is a graffiti artist who has helped in developing Indonesian street art […] We're glad that he is open to a global collaboration with us, therefore together we can introduce Indonesian street art to the global market.”
The DC Shoes x Darbotz collection is available in street wear retailers across the globe, while in Indonesia it can be found in Quiksilver stores with a starting price of Rp 299,000 (US$22). (kes)
