otman Paris Hutapea is synonymous with the glamorous lawyer life. However, between presenting clients in courts and driving his Lamborghini, Hotman recently revealed on his Instagram that he frequently spends time at coffee shop Kwang Koan, popularly known as Kopi Johny.

Nestled on Jl. Kopyor Raya Blok Q1, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, the coffee shop has become an internet sensation, as Hotman frequently posts videos from Kopi Johny. In an instant, these videos piqued netizens' curiosity, resulting in the coffee shop being visited by guests from various provinces, such as East Nusa Tenggara and Banten, and even from neighboring country Brunei.

Kompas.com reported that these guests come to Kopi Johny not only to see Hotman, but also to get free legal advice.

Linda was among the visitors who came to Kopi Johny to get a free legal consultation. Coming all the way from Tangerang, Banten, she visited the coffee shop after seeing Hotman’s Instagram posts.

“I saw on Instagram that many people [come to] get legal consultations. If [I come] to Hotman’s office, I might not be able to see him,” she reasoned, adding that the free consultation was one of the reasons she went to Kopi Johny.

Meanwhile, other visitors come to the coffee shop to take pictures with the lawyer.

Furthermore, Hotman had also invited public figures, namely Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno, celebrity couple Raffi Ahmad and Nagita Slavina as well as People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Zulkifli Hasan, to join him for a cup of coffee at Kopi Johny, adding another reason to visit the joint.

Johny Poluan, the owner of Kopi Johny, admitted that the shop’s popularity increased after Hotman promoted it on Instagram.

Johny added that sales had increased up to 30 percent.

Hotman is said to be a regular customer of Kopi Johny. “Actually, [he has several favorite places] for breakfast, but he frequently comes here. Maybe he feels comfortable and happy [in Kopi Johny],” said Johny.

Despite Hotman’s endorsing of the coffee shop, Johny mentioned that the lawyer always pays his bill. In return, Johny gives him special treatment, such as providing a parking space for his car.

Kopi Johny’s specials

Kopi Johny has a total of seven outlets, mostly located in Kelapa Gading. However, Johny usually attends the main outlet on Jl. Kopyor Raya.

Kopi Johny is open daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekends and public holidays.

As its name implies, the shop specializes in coffee, priced at Rp 12,000 (US$ 0.88) per cup. It also serves local breakfast staples, such as nasi uduk (rice cooked in coconut milk) and fried rice. (jes/wen)
