Known for his personal principle of self-criticism, contemporary artist Agus Suwage is among the artists featured in ART Jakarta 2018. Agus’ work will be featured in the 10 for 10 exhibit, which will feature 10 art installations from 10 artists.

The featured artwork from Agus Suwage, made special for the exhibit, is entitled Malaikat Yang Menjaga Hankamnas (The Angel Guard of Hankamnas). Composed of brass, copper, graphite and gold plating, the life-size installation depicts the artist’s interest in mortality, politics and man’s relation to religion.

His interest in the life and death cycle relates to his use of appropriation, in which he draws inspiration from his previous works as well as from other artists in the contemporary genre. Agus also delivers critiques on intolerance through his multicultural approach.
