Sophie sings out for the mothers

JAKARTA: After a long career as a master of ceremonies – MC – in singing events, Sophie Navita has now turned singer herself.

The proud mother of two sons recently released her debut minialbum Filosophie and dedicated it to all Indonesian mothers.

“All of the five songs in this album tell of the ups and downs of being a mother,” said the 33-year-old Singapore-born star. “It’s never easy to become a mother, but being a mother is a very noble profession.”

Sophie’s dedication to the maternal profession has a strong connection to her part-time job as an ambassador for breast-feeding campaigns.

“I hope my songs can really represent the voices of Indonesian mothers,” said Sophie, who’s married to Pongky, the lead singer of pop band Jikustik.

Depsite her husband’s popularity in the music industry, Sophie brushed away the claim that Pongky played a significant role in her album’s success.

“Pongky was only like a ‘traffic policeman’ in this album project, meaning he only guided me with ‘hand signals’.” —JP
