JAKARTA: These days, it seems new pop singers come and go in less than a year – which makes a seasoned singer such as Vina Panduwinata something of a rarity.
So the Indonesian diva’s plans to mark her coming 50th birthday – the golden year – with a concert will prove that a true artist must be able to stand the test of time and be able to perform in any kind of condition.
“Even if I’ve got the flu, I’ll try to give my best,” the singer said at a press conference Tuesday to promote her concert, as quoted by entertainment website kapanlagi.com.
Vina, known for her popular song “Burung Camar”, added that she had also sprained her ankles in the past because of her high heels.
“But that’s not a reason not to go on,” she said. “As they say, the show must go on.”
Her concert, titled “Fantastic Gold Vina Panduwinata”, will be held on Aug. 7, the same day as her birthday.
And being a seasoned musical performer means Vina is experienced in putting together a memorable show. One of the notable moments will be when she gives away her costume designed by Anne Avantie as memorabilia for the celebrity cafe and restaurant chain Planet Hollywood.
“It’s full of memories because I wore it at my first ever concert,” she said. “I want to share those memories with my fans.” — JP
