AKARTA: South Jakarta District Court has postponed two high-profile hearings featuring former tax official Bahasyim Assifie and former lawyer Haposan Hutagalung.
The trial of former tax official Bahasyim had been scheduled to hear the indictment. However, the prosecutors said the indictment had yet
to be completed. “There are still some data lacking,” prosecutor Fachrizal said.
Bahasyim is a suspect in a Rp 64 billion (US$7.1 million) money laundering and corruption case. He also stands accused of abuse of power and extortion. He allegedly abused his authority as the chief of the Jakarta tax office when he solicited a bribe of Rp 1 billion ($111,000) from a taxpayer named Kartini Mulyadi, one of the commissioners of PT Tempo Scan. The money laundering charge involves Rp 900 billion ($ 99.9 million).
This is the second time Bahasyim’s indictment has been postponed.
Meanwhile, the hearing of Haposan Hutagalung, the former lawyer of graft suspect Gayus Tambunan, was postponed until Tuesday because presiding judge H. Tahsin was not present due to ill health.
Today’s hearing was scheduled to hear Haposan’s defense plea.
