AKARTA: Five prison guards at the Cipinang Penitentiary in East Jakarta suspected of aiding the escape of four inmates were relieved from their duties Tuesday.
The guards also had to undergo questioning by an investigating team deployed by the Justice and Human Rights Ministry.
“We are in coordination with the police to investigate the case,” East Jakarta Justice and Human Rights Ministry Correctional Facility Division chief Sihabudin, said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
The ministry’s Director General for Correctional Facilities Untung Sugiyono said that the five guards allegedly involved in the prison break were currently under investigation. The five guards could be charged with conspiracy if they were found to have aided the escape.
