EMARANG: Dwi Riyanto, a victim of a low-explosive bomb blast, had his left arm amputated, according to medics at Dr Karyadi Hospital.

“The bomb fragments injured his corneas but we have cleared them,” hospital ICU head Jati Listyanto said, adding that Dwi also had three fingers charred.

He could not yet confirm whether Dwi’s vision would return to normal before further examination.

Ngatmin, another victim, was seriously injured on the right palm. He also suffered injuries to his arms and face.

Fajar Santoso, the third victim in the blast, sustained only a minor injuries and was allowed to return home right away.

The three were construction employees working on an Islamic boarding school, or pesantren, in Semarang, the site of the explosion.

Someone later identified a man called Imam as handing over three PVC pipe bombs found on Thursday, claiming he found them in a garbage bin not far from the working site.

The package was made into a homemade bomb. The explosion was heard 500 meters away from the site.

Imam was named a suspect, although the police referred to him only by his initial. Imam’s fellow residents demanded his release, saying that it was impossible that Imam had orchestrated the bombing, given that he was mentally retarded.
