fter his German Rally over the weekend, Indonesian driver Subhan Aksa may take up the challenge when the Production World Rally Championship stages its next series in Italy.
The German series proved to be a tough race for the Bosowa Rally Team driver, as he had expected, given the asphalt tarmac. As a result, he ended up in sixth place, although he said he was content to have rounded up the competition with an additional 8 points to his collection.
While he dropped from third to fifth place in the provisional standings, Subhan said he learned a lot from the German Rally.
“This is the art of rallying. It’s not merely a competition of speed, technology and skills, but also a challenge of how we handle emotion and follow the rules. Everything that happened here provided a valuable lesson and I’m sure it contributes to the next stages, on and off the circuit,” said the 25-year-old driver in a release.
The Italian races will be held on Oct. 20 and Subhan has said that he has been preparing for a podium challenge. “The track is like that in Indonesia. I will be preparing to become a champion there,” he said.
Subhan could have finished better if he had not experienced a mishap after the ninth stage (SS 9) on Saturday, when he was in the top three thanks to his victories in SS 7, SS 8 and a third-place finish in SS 9. But he and navigator Jeff Judd “made mistake by not regrouping in time”. As a consequence, they were denied entry in SS 10, 11 and 12. They were back in races on Sunday for the last three stages, but it proved difficult for them to recoup lost time.
Subhan said he was not too disappointed given the toughness of the races, in which only seven of 12 participants managed to reach the finish.
PWRC is FIA-sanctioned support competition to the World Rally Championship, which is currently dominated by Citroen’s world champion Sebastian Loeb, who streched his overall lead in the standings to 54 points after a win on Sunday.
