AKARTA: There will be 460 medal events in 33 sports at the next edition of the Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar in December, a top Indonesian sports official says.
“As of today, the organizers of the SEA Games have decided to offer 460 events in the tournament,” Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) secretary-general Timbul Thomas Lubis told journalists on Thursday.
The number of sports to be featured at the Games will be nine fewer than when Indonesia hosted the games in 2011 — and when the nation collected 182 gold, 151 silver and 143 bronze medals to emerge as the overall champion for the first time since 1997.
The sports to be omitted in Myanmar are tennis, gymnastics, beach volleyball, baseball, softball, bowling, bridge, fencing, fin swimming, paragliding, roller-skating, soft tennis, wall climbing and water skiing.
Naypyitaw, Yangoon and Mandalay will host the 27th Games, which will run from Dec.11 to 20.
