s of Tuesday morningIndonesian time, all Indonesians residing in Egypt were safe amid the worseningsecurity situation in the Middle Eastern country, said an official.

'€œThe Indonesian representative offices in Egypt have also been maintaining intensive communication with the Egyptian chapter of the Indonesian Students Association [PPI],'€ said Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt Teuku Dharmawan, as quoted by Foreign Ministry director for information and media PLE Priatna on Tuesday.

The Indonesian Embassy in the capital of Cairo has also urged all Indonesians, both those who reside in Cairo and in other cities, to remain vigilant due to increasing political tension after the delivering of the Egyptian military'€™s ultimatum.

Egypt'€™s military gave a '€œlast-chance'€ ultimatum to President Mohammed Morsi on Monday, giving him 48 hours to meet the demands of millions of protesters in the streets seeking his ouster, or else the generals will intervene and impose their own plan on the country.

'€œThe Indonesian Embassy has asked Indonesians to stay away from demonstrations or any other kind of political activities and to stay at home if there are no urgent activities,'€ Priatna added.

According to him, the Indonesian Embassy has also opened a 24/7 hotline for Indonesians who need information and assistance.

The embassy'€™s head of information, social and political affairs, Dahlia Kusuma Dewi, said the Indonesian representative offices would still carry out their activities as usual.

There are some 5,000 Indonesian citizens in Egypt, the majority are students living in Cairo and several other provinces in the country. (dic)
