ncumbent Pontianak Mayor Sutarmidji seems likely to win the reelection according to a quick count result with about half of the total vote from Thursday's race.
Sutarmidji and his running mate, Edi Rusdi Kamtono, won some 52.71 percent of the vote, Antara news agency reported on Thursday.
Incumbent Vice Mayor Paryadi received 20.48 while Firman Muntaco garnered 19.23 percent. Three other candidates got less than four percent of the vote.
Pontianak City General Election Commission (KPUD) chief, Joni Rudwin told The Jakarta Post on Friday that his office would hold a plenary meeting on Sept. 24 to officially tally the votes.
Sutarmidji has been nominated by four political parties; the United Development Party (PPP), the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), the National Mandate Party (PAN) and National Care Working Party (PKPB).
Three regencies in West Kalimantan also held regional leadership elections on Thursday.
Incumbent Pontianak Regent Ria Norsan as well as incumbent Sanggau Vice Regent Paolus Hadi were also ahead.
In Kubu Raya regency, incumbent Regent Muda Mahendrawan received fewer votes than Rusman Ali, who has been nominated by a coalition of parties led by PDI-P.
Meanwhile, the North Gorontalo regent election in Gorontalo province will still be held on Saturday despite calls to change the schedule to allow Adventists to cast their ballots.
'Three candidates are running, with 81,874 eligible voters and 232 polling stations,' North Gorontalo chief Sophian Rahmola said.
The candidates are Idrus Thomas and Risjon Kudjiman Sunge who are running on the Golkar Party ticket, independents Thoriq Modanggu and Hardi Hemeto, and incumbents Indra Yasin and Roni Imran who are being supported by a coalition of PAN, PDI-P, PPP, the People's Conscience (Hanura) Party, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and the Democratic Party (PD).
With Saturday being election day, 197 members of the local Seventh-Day Adventist Church may not be able to cast their vote as it would violate the Sabbath day ban on Adventists taking part in any activities from Friday sunset until Saturday sunset.
