erman-based automaker BMW launched its mid-size sports car, the new BMW 4 series coupe, on Friday at the 2013 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) held at the Jakarta International Expo in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.
Indonesia is the first country in Asia to launch the car, after its world premiere at the 2013 Frankfurt International Motor Show.
'The aesthetic perfection, the high capacity engine and sporty look, all appear in a new way in the all-new BMW 4 series coupe,' said BMW Group president director Ramesh Divyanathan in a statement released on Friday.
The 2-door vehicle is equipped with new BMW TwinPower Turbo technology that produces a maximum 306 horsepower, enabling the car to go from 0 kilometer/hour (km/h) to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.
Its ECO PRO mode also helps conserve fuel consumption by up to 20 percent. 'We want our customers in Indonesia to experience the ultimate in driving pleasure, while conserving energy by using BMW's product range and services,' said Divyanathan.
At the opening of IIMS on Thursday, BMW also launched the new BMW Z4, a 2-door car with a hardtop roof that can be opened at the touch of a button while the car is moving up to 40 km/h. The BMW Z4 is also powered by TwinPower Turbo technology.
BMW Group Indonesia sold 1,513 units as of August 2013, up 10 percent from the same period last year. Growth was driven by the BMW 3 series, which contributed 37 percent in sales, followed by BMW SAV models with 34 percent. Meanwhile the BMW 5 series and BMW X1 contributed around 23 percent and 20 percent, respectively.
