apanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is scheduled to meet with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Nusa Dua, Bali.
'I cannot yet confirm you the exact time of the meeting; but, it is scheduled,' said Deputy Director-General for Press and Public Diplomacy Koichi Mizushima, in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Friday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
Abe, who is popular with his strategy to revive Japan's economy, known as 'Abenomics', will have a closed meeting with Yudhoyono to discuss various issues, including the strengthening of partnerships and bilateral cooperation between the two countries and other crucial issues related to developments in the Asia Pacific region.
Mizushima said Japan and Indonesia had a close relationship that continued to strengthen. 'We give tremendous attention both to Indonesia and ASEAN. Japan and ASEAN and its member countries have paid a lot of attention each other as well,' he said.
The visit of Abe, as Japan's head of economy delegation in the 2013 APEC Summit in Bali, also brings a mission to jointly implement Bogor Goals agreed in the APEC Summit in Bogor, West Java, in 1994.
Mizushima refused to give details on whether there would be a bilateral meeting between Abe with his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping, who also attended the APEC Summit set to take place from Oct.7 to 8.
Mizushima further said that Japan wanted to maintain momentum in the APEC region and it was optimistic that the organizing of APEC's second round meeting in Nusa Dua, Bali, could run well and go smoothly.
'APEC is very unique for Japan and everyone else because it is not binding, it is voluntarily in nature and all parties are allowed to bring new issues,' Mizushima said.
