Dancer Suardana dies in China

elebratedcontemporary dancer, I Kadek Suardana, 57, has died after undergoing intensivetreatment in Guangzhou, China. The Balinese dancer died of pancreatic cancer,Gede Aryantha Soetama, representative of Suardana'€™s family, said on Thursday asquoted by Antara.

Gede said Suardana'€™s body was still in China. He is survived by his Japanese wife, Mari Nabeshima, two children and a grandchild.

Suardana, along with I Dewa Gede Palguna, Aryantha Soetama and Ulf Gadd, founded the Arti Foundation in 1998. Through the foundation they brought their work to national and international stages. Among their most noted works are, Gambuh Macbeth (1998), Ritus Legong (2002), Tajen I (2002), Tajen II (2006), all based on Balinese art traditions in a modern format.
