Deputy Governor Basuki âAhokâ Tjahaja Purnama said that state-run schoolsshould take harsh measures against students involved in crime
eputy Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama said that state-run schoolsshould take harsh measures against students involved in crime.
'The school management can punish them by suspending them at the end of the academic year or even expelling them,' he said at City Hall on Thursday.
Ahok also said that he supported SMA N 46 state senior high school in South Jakarta, which expelled 35 students recently.
On Oct. 17, the students hijacked a bus carrying students from a rival senior high school. SMA N 46 investigated each of the students and expelled them on Oct. 24.
'Students should not be involved with such things. If the school did not punish them, it could encourage other students to do something similar,' Ahok said.
Ahok also suggested that all parents monitor their children, not only at home but also outside. Parents should play an important role in shaping children's characters, he added.
