olice officers from West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Police's narcotics directorate arrested a 31-year-old public minivan driver, identified only by as SHD, on Sunday afternoon for alleged possession of more than 10 kilograms of marijuana.
'SHD was arrested in a boarding house in East Lombok while waiting for a buyer. Before the transaction took place, the police managed to take the suspect into custody. The evidence was 10.33 kilograms of marijuana,' NTB Police spokesperson Adj.Sr.Comr. M.Suryo Saputro told journalists on Monday.
He said the police were still investigating the case and it was suspected that SHD, a resident of Bagek Nyaka village, East Lombok, was part of trans-provincial drug-dealing network that had long been operating in NTB.
Suryo said the police had been watching SHD, who worked as a public minivan, or 'angkot', driver in East Lombok for several days based on information from a member of the public.
SHD had transported 10 packages of marijuana, weighing between 980 grams to 1.05 kilograms each, using a rented car before the arrest.
'SHD said the marijuana was provided by someone whom we are still pursuing. The suspect was asked to deliver it to the buyer who would come to the boarding house and was promised payment for the job,' said Suryo.
He added that SHD was being detained at the NTB Police headquarters and would be charged under Law No.35/2009 on narcotics. (ebf)
