hortly after wrapping up his Central and East Java political campaigning tour, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to inaugurate seven new facilities at the Indonesia Peace and Security Center (IPSC) complex in Sentul, West Java, on Monday afternoon.
Yudhoyono, First Lady Ani Yudhoyono and delegation are scheduled to arrive at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta at 12 p.m. and will proceed directly to the center, according to a release by the Cabinet Secretariat.
The seven facilities to be inaugurated are the Peacekeeping Center, the Counterterrorism Training Ground, the Humanitarian and Disaster Relief Training Center, the Standby Force Center, the Language Center, the Defense University and the Military Sports Center.
Nestled in 270 hectares of land in Sentul, around 30 kilometers south of Jakarta, Yudhoyono inaugurated the first official use of the IPSC in 2011.
Its construction began in 2010 and the whole complex is expected to be in full operation this year. It is now recognized as Southeast Asia's largest training facility for UN peace-keeping forces.
The IPSC is a multi-agency project that has also been supported by foreign donors such as the US and Australia.
In March, 2012, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon visited the facility and gave a speech in front of Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel.
The IPSC has also hosted numerous international activities. In May 2012, for example, it hosted joint-training of the Special Operations Group of the United Nation (UNSOG) and the United Nation Logistics Officers (UNLOG), which was participated in by eight nations.
A year later, Indonesia and the US jointly hosted the ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting's (ADMM Plus) joint Counterterrorism Exercise (CTx). All 10 ASEAN member nations plus its eight partners, namely the US, China, New Zealand, Russia, Australia, India, South Korea, and Japan, took part in the event at the complex.
