Cleaners tested for herpes scare in JIS case

nvestigators at the Jakarta Police are testing cleaners at Jakarta International School (JIS) for the sexually transmitted infection (STI) herpes, which a student who was allegedly sexually assaulted had contracted.

Two school cleaning service officers, Agun and Firziawan, who have been named suspects in the case, did not tested positive for the STI.

Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said the child might have contracted the virus from two other cleaners, identified by the initials ZA and AJ, who were also allegedly involved in the crime and could be named as suspects.

'€œWe are still investigating ZA and AJ,'€ he said at the Jakarta Police headquarters on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.

Rikwanto said the two cleaners were being tested for the herpes virus. He added that as they had not yet been named as suspects they were still working at JIS.

'€œAs a final effort, we will show the victim pictures of suspects,'€ said Rikwanto.

Based on information from the victim'€™s mother, the six-year-old boy was reported to have contracted herpes following a sexual assault allegedly perpetrated by out-sourced cleaners at JIS.

Two cleaners have been named as suspects and detained at the Jakarta Police headquarters since Monday. They are being charged with violating Law No. 23/2002 on child protection with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison. (put/ebf)
