Govt launches 2014 National Coffee Exhibition and Seminar

ndustry Minister MS Hidayat launched on Tuesday the 2014 National Coffee Exhibition and Seminar in Jakarta in a bid to spur development and help market local coffee to both domestic and international markets.

"This exhibition is also aimed at encouraging businesspeople in the coffee industry to improve the quality of their coffee and better market their products," Hidayat said at the exhibition plaza at the ministry office, as quoted by Antara news agency.

The exhibition and seminar will be held from June 24 to June 27.

A wide variety of Indonesian coffees from regions in Indonesia, including Mandailing and Lampung in Sumatra; the Kintamani region of Bali; the Toraja highlands in Sulawesi, Bajawa, Flores; Wamena, Papua; and Java will be on hand. Luwak coffee, the world'€™s most expensive type, will also be displayed.

As many as 42 producers participated in the four day event, Hidayat added.

Based on recent data released by the ministry, the 692,000 tons of coffee produced by Indonesia in 2013 made it the world's third largest coffee producer, trailing only Brazil and Vietnam. (nfo)
