he Indonesian government has denounced Israel's military aggression in Gaza, and has called on the United Nations and the wider international community to put pressure on Israel to end the violence in the region.
'The Israeli military actions in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of innocent civilians in Palestine and created new disturbances to the conducive situation toward the Palestine-Israel peace processes,' Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said in a statement on Thursday.
'Israel's move needs to be opposed. The military aggression, which is exacerbating the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank, is actually 'collective punishment' against the Palestine people,' Marty added.
He reiterated the importance of ending the Israeli occupation, stressing the need to conduct peace talks to reach a two-state solution, to allow both Israel and Palestine to live side by side in harmony.
'The UN Security Council and the international community need to pressurize Israel into immediately ceasing its violent actions against civilians in Gaza,' Marty said, adding that Indonesia's permanent representative to the UN would intensify collaboration with Palestine, as well as member states of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to push for international concerns regarding the ongoing situation in Gaza.
