Over 870,000 people arrived back in Jakarta after spending time away from the capital for the Idul Fitri holiday.
On Saturday, 3,075 people arrived from Tanjung Emas Semarang Port, Central Java, using the free service run by the Transportation Ministry on Saturday.
Free services will be run for three days between Saturday and Monday from the Tanjung Emas Semarang Port.
Deputy Transportation Minister Bambang Susantono explained that the number of people traveling to and from their hometowns by motorcycle had decreased by 10 percent due to the free services.
"Although the number of people traveling by motorcycle has decreased, the number of people traveling by car rose by 7.5 percent," he said.
Not many motorcyclists used the free train service, which transported them and their vehicles by train, only 48 motorcyclists used the service from Semarang and just 45 from Central Java. (fss/dic)
