Thousands of people traveling back to Jakarta arrived by train on Saturday.

Senen Station head Supendi said that up to 11,573 peoplehad arrived from Central Java and East Java by 9:21 a.m., according to tribunnews.com.

According to the station's data, up to 2,000 travelers came from Kutoarjo, Purworejo, Central Java.

Gambir Station in Jakarta saw 42,304 passengers arrive from West Java, Central Java and East Java arrived on Saturday.

According to the deputy transportation minister, Bambang Susantono, the number of train travelers had increased by 14 percent this year.

"The increase could have been spurred by increased buying ability," he said on Saturday.

Some 17.24 million people traveled home in 2012 and 18.58 million in 2013. It is estimated that this year there were 19.29 million people, up by 3.83 percent. (fss)
